Hello
and welcome to the Michigan Chapter Antique and Classic Boat
Society's web page. We are excited that you have shown an interest
in our chapter. Even though we are not the oldest chapter in
the society we are known as the chapter 'Where It All Began".
The term comes from the fact that the industry of pleasure boating
started right here in Michigan. To be exact Algonac Michigan
was where Chris Smith started his company that would become
known as Chris Craft, Algonac was also the first home for Gar
Wood boats. Hacker Craft and Century were also Michigan based
companies giving the state the distinction of being the home
of the big four in powerboats. This is not to say that there
weren't other boat builders in Michigan or throughout the United
States and Canada, it is just that these companies were the
best known by the general public.
Our
chapter had its humble beginnings as an annual gathering of
wooden boat enthusiasts in the early seventies, where else but
in Algonac. That small gathering in July grew and grew and out
of that the Michigan Chapter was founded. That gathering is
still held each year, and is now known as the Chris Craft Plant
Jamboree Boat Show.
We
can't thank those early enthusiasts and our founding fathers
enough for starting what has become one of the oldest and largest
chapters in the Antique And Classic Boat Society. We also want
to thank you for visiting us as we pass along a special invitation
for you to join us in our continued enjoyment of the wooden
boats that we all so dearly love and appreciate.
With
Greatest Sincerity,
